TAEKWONDO jins from Western Visayas State University showed their dominance in the men’s and women’s taekwondo competition of 2018 State College University Athletic Association Meet in Iloilo City.
WVSU jins claimed the overall championship in women’s category with seven golds, two silver and two bronze medals, while the men’s team placed second with five golds and a bronze medal.
Sheen Erloise Lopez spearheaded WVSU women’s taekwondo team with a gold medal in individual poomsae and team poomsae with Nicole Ann Dela Cerna and Hazel Tapales. Tapales also had a gold medal in mixed poomsae with Kenneth Gascon.
WVSU women’s also had gold medals in kyorugi from Roanne Martinez and Jessa Lastrado, silver medals from Luzzeneri Largo, Rhea Ann Dusaban and Jonalyn Jalando-on, and bronze from Danielle Olido and D’Anfernie Lama.
Aside from his mixed poomsae gold, Gascon also placed first in the individual men’s poomsae and in team event with fellow WVSU bet Angelo Seneres. The lone bronze was from Alvin Huesca in kyorugi.
“I am delighted and contented with our performance here in SCUAA since all of the taekwondo jins have gave their best,” said WVSU sports and athletics director Richard Gabayoyo. “I cannot ask for a better result from my players.”/PN
