ILOILO City – A strong faith in God and dedication to his studies.

These, according to Mark Laurence Latumbo Caro, enabled him to top the Nurse Licensure Examination (NLE) on May 25.

The graduate of West Visayas State University (WVSU) said he was surprised that he made it to the Top 10.

“I’m happy and proud. I did not expect this,” he said.

Latumbo, a resident of Calinog, Iloilo, ranked No. 7 with a rating of 84.40 percent.

“I thank the people who helped me, my family and my school,” the grateful Caro said.

Aside from Caro, other Western Visayans in the top 10 were Charmaine Relos Timbas of Riverside College in Bacolod City, also No. 7, and Zhaine Marie Madrazo Samorro of Saint Paul University-Iloilo, No. 9, with a rating of 84 percent.

WVSU’S PRIDE

WVSU president, Dr. Luis Sorolla expressed elation over the accomplishment of the College of Nursing.

It reflects the university’s endeavor to attain quality and excellence to become one of the top universities in Southeast Asia, he said.

“It also proves the dedication and capability of the faculty members in the College of Nursing to deliver the best instructional services as we train globally competitive nurses,” Sorolla added.

As posted in Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) website, all of WVSU’s 139 nursing graduate examinees passed the NLE.

Sharing the top post with WVSU as best performing school were Cebu State College and Silliman University with 78 and 53 nursing passers, respectively.

In 2007, WVSU also topped the NLE; it notched 100 percent passing rate.

It repeated its feat last year (2013), six years after, when it topped again the exam with 100 percent of 135 graduates passing. Two of its examinees also landed in the Top 10./PN
