Bacolod City – A resolution, requesting for a collaboration of the World Wide Fund (WWF)-Philippines and the city government here, was passed to the city council.
Councilor Carlos Jose Lopez, author of the resolution, said the collaboration for a farm house project with the WWF-Philippines will promote solutions for food security in the farm areas of barangays Alangilan, Granada and Felisa here.
According to the resolution, one of the “key drivers” of change in the world is urbanization, citing the global population of around 3.5 billion that is expected to increase to six billion by 2050.
Lopez said the foreseen migration of people from rural to urban areas pose a big challenge not only for the urban zones, but also on the countryside.
The WWF-Philippines, as cited in the resolution, has a goal on sustainable food system that conserves nature and maintain food security.
It also works with key stakeholders to ensure food production is managed sustainably in the conservation of biodiversity, resilience to climate change, and socio-economic benefits to rural communities./PN
