BACOLOD City – Olivia Yanson, the matriarch of the giant bus firm Vallacar Transit Inc., has been discharged from the hospital after recovering from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Ginnette Yanson-Dumancas, daughter of Olivia, posted a picture of her mother being wheeled out of St. Luke’s Medical Center in Metro Manila after spending 10 days battling the illness.

Dumancas said her mother will be placed in isolation for another seven days.

Early detection, she said, was the secret to the success of her mother fighting and winning against COVID-19.

“COVID first attacks your nasal passages, throat and your lungs. It will weaken your lungs first then the rest of the body organs,” Dumancas, citing her mother’s ordeal.

Earlier this month, Yanson was airlifted to Manila. She was having difficulty breathing.

Despite the illness, the matriarch still exhibited a “strong fighting spirit” even requesting that she takes a bath first before being rushed to the hospital in Bacolod City prior to being airlifted to Manila./PN
