ILOILO City – The Year of the Fire Rooster is a good year for the city and province of Iloilo in the field of business, according to a local psychic who also dabbles in feng shui.

Yes, he says, the city will continue to progress and its hosting of several meetings of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and other events will be among the contributory factors.

“There is business stability and more investors will come in,” adds the 63-year-old seer who asks to be identified only as Mr. Sing.

He says Ilonggo senator Franklin Drilon be instrumental in some way to the sustained progress of Iloilo even if he now belongs to the opposition Liberal Party.

“Drilon knows how to play his cards,” says Mr. Sing.

However, Mr. Sing warns about “health issues” that come with Iloilo’s progress.

“Be cautious because basi may sudden rise sang HIV cases,” he says.

HIV or the human immunodeficiency virus causes Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome.

Mr. Sing also sees environmental problems. The local government should pay attention to environmental conservation efforts, he says, because climate change can result to something worse.

Two “serious typhoons” will hit Iloilo but these will not be as worse as 2008’s Typhoon “Frank” that inundated the city and province.

In politics, Mr. Sing says, “Issues are issues. They would die down later on. It is a good nga may check man ang Duterte administration.”

He sees President Rodrigo Duterte giving Iloilo City’s Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog enough leeway to prove his innocence in the allegation of being a coddler of drug traffickers.

Yes, says Mr. Sing, this issue will die down.

On the nation level, Mr. Sing says the Year of the Rooster is President Duterte’s year but he will have some problems with his men and there will be hinisa-ay (envy) within them.

He does not agree with prognostications that the President won’t be able to finish his six-year term.

“Matapos ‘ya gid ang term ‘ya. You know, he is a player. Ang wala kay PNoy (former President Benigno Aquino III) ara sa iya,” says Mr. Sing.

In the government’s campaign against illegal drugs, Mr. Sing says it will not be a “100 percent success.”

“Although they are hunting down old players, may mga new players coming up. Indi mo madula, maski mismo within sa tinawo nila, indi man nila ma-check. May ara man gihapon nga naga-take advantage because ara sila sa pwesto, sila naman ang mahari-hari,” says Mr. Sing.

Those born in the Year of the Fire Rooster are argumentative, according to Mr. Sing.

He describes them as “power players” and “good manipulators”, intelligent and may use these skills to succeed.

“Sometimes, they are very vocal, sometimes they get into arguments kay indi sila magpa-pirdi. They usually get into trouble bangod sang pamâbâ nila nga daw indi magpalusot,” says Mr. Sing.

These people have to be careful with their mouths, he stresses.

Mr. Sing was one of those who helped the police locate in 2001 the bodies of abducted and murdered public relations man Salvador “Buddy” Dacer and Ilonggo driver Emmanuel Corbito in Cavite during the term of then President Joseph Estrada./PN
