KALIBO, Aklan — Metered airport taxi services will soon be offered to departing and arriving passengers at Kalibo International Airport.
Yellow metered airport cabs will ply from the airport to any point in Aklan and outside the province 24/7, Sangguniang Bayan member Augusto Tolentino said.
The rates of the airport taxis will be regulated by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, said Tolentino, transportation committee chair.
But the Kalibo airport taxis “could not pick up passengers along the way, even after bringing their passengers (from the airport) to their destinations,” he said.
The municipal councilor said this will “protect the livelihood of jeepney, van, tricycle and bus drivers.”
Tolentino said the taxi drivers will be required to wear uniforms and shoes and to be well-mannered and courteous to passengers.
A private company will provide air-conditioned metered taxi units equipped with receipt-issuing meters and two-way radios, he said.
Rent-a-car vehicles and tourist vans are readily available at the Kalibo airport, just across the airport terminal building.
Kalibo International Airport is the main airport that handles both domestic and international flights in Aklan.
It has flights to and from Manila, South Korea, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and mainland China.
The province’s other airport is the Godofredo P. Ramos Airport, also known as the Caticlan airport.
The capital town of Kalibo also serves as an important gateway to Boracay and other ecotourism destinations in Aklan. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
