ILOILO City – Businessman/journalist Rommel S. Ynion has assumed anew the interim presidency of the Iloilo Press Club, taking over Daily Guardian editor-in-chief Francis Allan Angelo. The rest of the incumbent officers likewise hold interim positions until such time when a new set of officers will have been elected.
This was the decision of the officers and the board of directors during their most recent meeting at Hotel del Rio.
Ynion told Panay News that his first order of business is to restore to completion the IPC building, which he himself donated in 2013.
Finished (except the interior) but unoccupied, the building was ransacked by thieves who dismantled and stole its jalousies, tiles and even toilet bowl.
“One of the rooms will serve as library,” Ynion said, “where Iloilo media men could read and research books. I already have the books for that.”
The IPC building will serve not only as office of the club but also as venue for press conferences.
Ynion was also interim president of the IPC in 2010 to 2012.
President Angelo was elected in 2013 together with the other officers, namely Jerry Taclino, vice president for print; Vicente “Danny Baby” Foz, vice president for broadcast; Elena “Bing” Pabiona, secretary; Tara Yap, treasurer; Ricardo “Boyet” Octavio Jr., auditor; and Peter Jimenea, business manager.
The IPC board of directors includes three past IPC presidents – Danny Fajardo, Lemuel Fernandez and Herbert Vego – as well as Pet Melliza and Jhey-R Villalba./PN
