KALIBO, Aklan – Two young Aklanons performers have received commendation from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP).
Melky Barrera Arboleda of Barangay Estancia here won gold, silver and bronze medals in the 20th Annual World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) at Long Beach, California, from July 8 to 17.
Michelle Penaroyo Luna of Barangay Poblacion, Batan town, also won a gold medal in the same competition.
Arboleda bagged gold in the Opera Category, silver in the Broadway Category and bronze in the Rock Category.
Luna, who has a bachelor’s degree in music with a major in music education, took home gold in the Opera Category.
She is now taking another bachelor’s course in music — this time with a major in voice — at the University of San Agustin in Iloilo City.
The achievements of Arboleda and Luna brought honor and pride not only to their respective families but to the Aklanons and Filipinos as a whole, the Provincial Board said in two separate resolutions.
The SP handed the resolutions to Arboleda and Luna after a flag-raising ceremony in front of the provincial capitol.
Sixty-one countries participated in this year’s WCOPA. (PIA/PN)
