SAN JOSE, Antique – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) are encouraging graduating Antique pupils to apply for their scholarship.
DOST scholars are admitted to the Philippine Science High School.
The provincial office is currently distributing application forms to elementary schools, said the DOST’s Eleazar Moscoso.
“Last year, we had seven qualifiers for the scholarship,” he said.
While there are several Philippine Science High School campuses across the country, most scholars from Antique are enrolled in the Western Visayas campus in Barangay Bitoon, Jaro, Iloilo City.
“Students who qualify [to the] Philippine Science High School scholarship are considered the cream of the crop,” Moscoso said.
One outstanding Philippine Science High School alumnus from Antique is former Department of Energy secretary Raphael P. M. Lotilla, who hails from the municipality of Sibalom.
The deadline for the submission of application forms is on Aug. 31. The examination is on Oct. 20 at St. Anthony’s College.
Scholars are entitled to free tuition, free loan of textbooks, monthly stipend, uniform, transportation, living allowances for low-income groups, and dormitory accommodation if applicable.
The DOST also offers college scholarships for poor but deserving students.
“The students or their parents may visit our office to inquire and get application forms,” Moscoso said. (PNA)
