ILOILO City – A construction worker hanged himself to death in Barangay Camambugan, Dingle, Iloilo.
Police believed a quarrel with his girlfriend drove the 20-year-old Jared Dalde to commit suicide.
Dalde worked as a welder at a construction site in the municipality of Alimodian, Iloilo. On Saturday, grandmother Adelaida Dalde found him hanging lifeless from the ceiling of their house at around 11 p.m.
Relatives brought Dalde to the Dingle Rural Health Clinic in the hope of reviving him but to no avail.
“He was living with his grandparents,” according to Senior Inspector Samuel Vipinosa, Dingle police chief.
Dalde returned home at around 9 p.m. from his work in Alimodian. He was silent but his grandparents did not find this unusual, said Vipinosa.
The grandparents described Dalde as a silent type of person.
Text messages from Dalde’s mobile phone made the police to suspect that a quarrel with his girlfriend may have driven him to despair.
The girlfriend was a resident of Alimodian.
One text message the police retrieved read, “Babe kitaay na lang ta sa pihak nga kinabuhi (let’s meet in the afterlife).”
