ROXAS City – A 21-year-old woman strangled her newborn baby to death in Barangay Baybay here.
She now faces a complaint for infanticide, police said.
The young mother was a caregiver. She was bleeding and was brought by her suspicious employer to the doctor.
A pregnancy test and ultrasound was performed, and she was discovered to have newly given birth.
Confronted by her employer, the caregiver admitted having been pregnant but concealed it, and that after she gave birth to a baby boy on Sept. 17 she wrapped him in a garbage bag, choked him to death then kept the body in a cabinet.
On Sept. 18, the baby was autopsied. He was ruled to have died of asphyxiation by strangulation.
The mother was hospitalized due to bleeding. She was placed on hospital arrest./PN
