ILOILO – A youth summit that will center on the campaign against illegal drugs will be held in New Lucena town on Jan. 12, 2017.

According to Mayor Christian Sorongon, the summit will be sponsored by the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) Advisory Council on Police Transformation and Development.

“Mga two days ini para mas madamo ang istoryahan in terms of drug abuse sa aton nga mga kabataan,” said Sorongon.

The antidrug summit is expected to gather 800 to 1,000 youth aging 15 to 20 years old from all over the province, mostly members of student councils.

The Provincial Advisory Council came up with this initiative citing data that in Iloilo province, the sector most affected by illegal drugs are young people aging 15 to 30 years old.

“Diri sa New Lucena may involved gid man nga kabataan (in illegal drugs),” said Sorongon.

Invited speakers will talk about, among others, the ill-effects of illegal drugs.

Through the summit, Sorongon hoped that the youth would be enlightened and empowered in so far as fighting illegal drugs./PN
