140 Aklan ‘sitio’ households on lockdown

KALIBO, Aklan – Households in two sitios in the municipalities of Lezo and Numancia, Aklan are on granular enhanced community lockdown.

It started on Dec. 30, 2020.

Local authorities imposed a lockdown on 140 households in Sitio Tunga, Barangay Ibao, Lezo and in Sitio Ilaya, Barangay Aliputos, Numancia after four cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) were confirmed.

A male employee of Aerodome Rescue and Firefighting Unit (ARFF) at the Kalibo International Airport contracted the virus then infected three family members in Lezo.

All the four active cases were taken to a quarantine facility for close monitoring.

Around 34 high-risk contacts were swabbed. Specimens collected were tested by the molecular laboratory at the Aklan provincial hospital.  

Lezo mayor Mary Lenette Fernandez issued Executive Order No. 32 on Dec. 29, 2020 detailing rapid containment, isolation and quarantine control measures.

The lockdown was imposed upon the recommendation of the Municipal Inter-Agency Task Force. No date was given when it would be lifted.

Affected households in Lezo and Numancia have been receiving relief food packs from their local government units (LGUs).

Police also implemented strict border controls to limit people going in or out, while Sitio Tunga and the boundary of Aliputos was locked down.

Fernandez stressed the need to enforce health protocols – wear facemasks, maintain physical distancing, proper hand washing.

As of Dec. 27, 2020 Lezo had 20 active COVID-19 cases with one death, data from the Provincial Health Office showed./PN
