KALIBO, Aklan – The province of Aklan is seeing a 95 percent drop in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) hospital admissions in late September compared to the number of admissions in July.
Hospitals reported daily admission in the low double digits – as low as nine COVID patients a day – from Sept. 21 to Sept. 25.
On Saturday, Aklan almost tied the previous record of seven hospitalizations on March 28, 2021.
Hospitals admitted 154 people on July 31 (intensive care units COVID beds and COVID ward beds) but dropped to nine patients on Sept. 25.
As of Sunday, Aklan’s seven-day average of new coronavirus cases stood at 17, roughly 10 times lower at the beginning of August.
The seven-day positivity rate from Sept. 18 to 25 now stands at 18 percent.
Aklan recorded its lowest single-day COVID-19 positivity rate of two percent on Sept. 13, 2021 with four COVID-19 cases out of 169 tests.
On Sept. 24, the province reported one death from Kalibo, bringing Aklan’s total during the pandemic to 314.
To date, there have been 12,456 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Aklan, including 217 active infected people./PN
