ANTIQUE – An alternative route has been sighted following the collapse of the Paliwan Bridge in Barangay Cubay North, Bugasong town.

Paliwan Bridge – the sole bridge connecting the municipalities of Bugasong and Laua-an – collapsed due to the strong water current brought by Tropical Storm “Paeng” around 5:50 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29. This disconnects the northern towns from Laua-an up to Libertad from the rest of the province.

Bugasong vice mayor Susan Escote has recommended an alternative route passing through the mountain areas of Barangay Anilawan to the hanging foot bridge in Barangay Yapo. The hanging foot bridge connects to barangays Capnayan and Jaguiquican in Laua-an.

According to Bobong Valenzuela, a resident of Brgy. Cubay North, Bugasong, the Brgy. Yapo hanging foot bridge is one and a half hours away from their barangay.

Meanwhile, following the collapse of the Paliwan Bridge, several people were seen swimming across the river just to reach their families. However, Philippine Army reservists advised people not to swim across the river due to the strong currents since Saturday. (With a report from PIO LAVEGA)/PN
