NU surges to 3-0 in UAAP volleyball

MANILA – National University Lady Bulldogs continued its strong start in the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball after a 25-22, 25-15, 25-19 sweep of De La Salle University Lady Spikers on Tuesday night at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Alyssa Solomon spearheaded the offense with 14 points, on 10 attacks and four blocks, while Mhicaela Belen chipped in 13 points, seven excellent digs, and seven excellent receptions for the Lady Bulldogs.

Ilongga Princess Ann Robles had 12 markers, Guimarasnon Camilla Lamina steered the offense with 15 excellent sets while Jennifer Nierva defended the floor well with 16 excellent receptions and 11 excellent digs for the 3-0 NU.

“Nag stick lang kami sa game plan namin then yung mga bata na-execute nila ng maayos yung game plan and inenjoy lang yung game,” said Lady Bulldogs head coach Karl Dimaculangan.

Standing at two points away from the victory, Lady Bulldogs’ service specialist Chinnie Arroyo secured a service ace to put her squad at match point, 24-18.

Arroyo then committed a service error on the next play before Lady Spikers’ Alleiah Malaluan miscalculated her attach which eventually finished the match.

Malaluan was the only double-digit scorer for the 2-1 Lady Spikers with 10 points. She also had seven excellent digs while Jolina Dela Cruz had eight points and 17 excellents.

Meanwhile, Adamson University Lady Falcons recovered from a first set loss to defeat skidding Ateneo De Manila University Lady Eagles, 23-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-12.

Adamson went for the kill in the fourth frame, putting up a 14-point, 19-5 advantage to take the fight out of the Blue Eagles. The lead eventually reached 15, 22-7, off a kill from May Ann Nuique.
Alexis Miner committed an attack error which sent the game to match point. Meanwhile, a service error from Pia Ildefonso bagged the win for Adamson.
Trisha Genesis tallied 17 points to go with 12 excellent receptions to lead the Lady Falcons to a 1-2 standing while Nique added 15 points and 13 excellent digs./PN
