ILOILO City – Despite the challenges due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the Department of Education (DepEd) considered the first day of classes in public and private schools in Region 6 as successful.

“Modules were distributed, parents were oriented, private partners and LGUs (local government units) also gave their share,” said Director Ramir Uytico of DepEd-6.

Schools Division Offices (SDOs) reported no problems, said Uytico.

On Monday, schools started distributing learning materials to parents and learners.

Meanwhile, Panay News chanced upon Dr. Ma. Luz Delos Reyes, schools division superintendent of this city, and Dannie Clark Uguil, assistant schools division superintendent, checking Jaro 1 Elementary School in Jaro district.

Kon sa modules lang daw wala gid kita problema kay naka-practice na kita last year. So we have experiences already for one year. I think this school year our parents are already used to going to schools getting the modules,” said Delos Reyes.

She appealed to the learners to cooperate with their parents, and parents should also be patient in teaching their children.

EXTENDED

Meanwhile, Uytico confirmed that enrollment has been extended until Sept. 30.

Education secretary Leonor Briones issued a department order detailing such.

“In consideration of the current limitations and difficulties due to community quarantine restrictions in various areas, the Department of Education announces the extension of the enrollment period for school year 2021-2022 until Sept.  30, 2021,” read part of the order.

“All public schools are directed to accept late enrollees until the end of September upon submission of the Modified Enrollment and Survey Form. Private schools, state, colleges and universities including local universities that are following the school opening schedule of DepEd are highly encouraged to also accept late enrollees,” it added.

DepEd-6’s data (as of Sept. 9) showed 1,491,186 enrollees in public and private schools, State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) / Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs), Alternative Learning System (ALS), and Special Education.
