Seating capacity of San Jose tricycles increased

SAN JOSE, Antique – The Sangguniang Bayan (SB) here granted Mayor Elmer Untaran the authority to increase the passenger capacity of tricycles-for-hire from the current three to five subject to health and safety protocols.

The move aims to help tricycle drivers and operators recover from the economic fallout of the coronavirus pandemic.

Untaran is the chairperson of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) of San Jose.

“Tricycle drivers and operators did not only endure the imposition of three passengers’ capacity on tricycle-for-hire for almost 19 months due to threat of (coronavirus disease     2019) but also the continued spike in fuel prices,” according to the SB.

Increasing the seating capacity of tricycles-for-hire will not only help commuters but also to address the growing expenses of the day-to-day operations of drivers and operators, it added.

Tricycle is the most popular mode of transport in San Jose which has 28 barangays./PN
