MANILA – Vice President Leni Robredo has decried the bullying of her daughters Aika and Tricia following their Twitter posts that seemed to be alluding to President Rodrigo Duterte.
In a Facebook post on Friday, Robredo said her daughters have the right to speak their minds on government policies just like any other Filipino citizen.
“Ngayon, ang binu-bully mga anak ko. I have always been proud of the persons my daughters have become. They are their own persons. What they have accomplished, so far, are all borne out of their hard work. They never used our name or whatever little influence we have to get what they want,” Robredo said.
“They’re all adults now. They’re not in government. They are not politicians and they don’t plan to be. Totoo, they’re outspoken and rightfully so. We have trained them to stand up for themselves and what they believe in,” she added.
During a televised media briefing on Thursday, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque presented the Twitter posts made by the Robredo sisters. The tweets did not mention a name or used the then viral hashtag #NasaanAngPangulo.
Aika, Leni’s eldest daughter, tweeted, “Sabado eh. Weekend.” This came after her younger sibling’s post: “Tulog pa rin? Alas otso na.”
President Duterte, in his public address earlier this week, accused Robredo of being behind the #NasaanAngPangulo as Typhoon Ulysses battered parts of country.
Robredo responded by saying she never looked for the President amid the disaster, adding she was busy attending calls from typhoon-hit communities./PN
